The title of this small book did not prepare me for the impact it made on my spiritual life. Written by one of the founders of the Evangelical Sisters of Mary a group created after World War II under the direction of Methodist leader Paul Riedinger, it tells heroic tales of trust. While I was reading this collection of stories about women who brought God’s love and light to a war-ravaged country, I kept saying to myself, “I want my faith to be like that.” As I contemplated the things they did to share their faith and the way God revealed Himself to them as Father, I wanted more from my own relationship with God the Father.
These Christian women went about God’s business no matter the obstacle or the impossibility of the task before them. They saw God move mountains; they relied on God to provide for all their needs and found Him totally faithful to all He promised in His word. Through trials and triumphs, repentance and obedience they came to know God as their Father in Heaven in practical and miraculous ways. As He placed before them task after challenging task they found fresh opportunity to grow in their faith.
Page after page I kept thinking, “I want a faith like that. I want to trust God more, to live with deeper conviction and fresh boldness. I want to follow my Master, Jesus, wherever He leads me. I want to always rest in Him and the promises of the Bible.”
We live in a time that discounts God’s mighty hand of direction, provision and help. However, the God that guided and provided for these women is still at work today. Reading their stories is a great way to find encouragement and the inspiration to seek an ever-deepening life of faith.
